Two of the most common commercial glazing systems are storefront and curtain wall. They look similar but perform very differently. Choosing correctly affects cost, weatherproofing and code compliance.

Storefront Systems

Storefront is a non-load-bearing, ground-level aluminum-and-glass system, typically up to about 10 feet tall. It is ideal for retail entrances, restaurants and tenant improvements. Storefront is more economical and faster to install, which is why it dominates retail build-outs in Anaheim and across Orange County.

Curtain Wall Systems

Curtain wall is a multi-story, structurally engineered facade that hangs on the building frame and resists significant wind and seismic loads. It offers superior performance for mid- and high-rise buildings, with better thermal and water resistance – at a higher cost.

How to Choose

  • Building height – one story favors storefront; multiple stories favor curtain wall.
  • Performance needs – curtain wall for demanding wind/water/thermal loads.
  • Budget – storefront is more cost-effective for small footprints.
  • Title 24 – both can be specified to meet California energy code.

iBeam Construction designs and installs both systems, and coordinates glazing with structural steel for watertight, on-schedule envelopes.
